House Update

Here are some pictures of the current state of the house rebuild. Siding went up at the end of last week and a little over the weekend. we are replacing the cedar with hardy plank so hopefully we won't have to replace it again.

The windows are looking beautiful, they make me so happy!

Unfortunately the inside of the house has kind of stalled out. We are having major problems with our electrical inspection, which I always feared would be our biggest obstacle in rebuilding.

In the mean time we are still fixing up the back bedrooms. Eric and his parents scraped all the popcorn ceilings and we repainted the girls rooms. Eric built a cool bunk bed mostly out of wood scraps we already had. We will put a floor bed under the lofted bed for Clover and Echo will sleep on top.

This weekend I painted the bed purple with white clouds per the kid's request :-)

Kid's Art Throw Pillows

So when I am trying to distract myself from my frustration over our house being rebuilt I try to focus on the fun stuff I get to buy with our replacement money from the insurance company. I recently ordered my dream sofa from Room and Board and was searching for the perfect throw pillows to go with it. I was thinking something abstracts, colorful and with a watercolor feel. Then I had the idea to get some of the kid's paintings printed on pillows!

What a great way to incorporate their artwork in to our living space. I photographed the paintings and uploaded them to Shutterfly. then ordered pillows printed with the photographed artwork. It was so easy and they turned out so beautifully! The blue and gold pillow is Clover's painting and the purple and green one is Echo's

I can't wait to see them in place on my beautiful new sofa. It still feels like a long way off before we are back in our house but siding is going up today so that's progress at least!

March Photos

Here's what we were up to in March. In the above picture the girls are painting a life sized portrait of me.

We visited the nature center lots.

And the lake.

And had crazy dance parties ;-)

Hoping for a house update soon, progress is slow but getting there.

February Photos

I didn't take a ton of photos this month because I just haven't been in the mood but I do a few to share. We spent lots of time at NLA and outside with friends.

We also took a quick weekend getaway to Savannah which was great! It's always nice to visit my old college stomping grounds and it was fun to have a mini adventure with the kids.

Unfortunately it was really cold at the beach so we didn't get to stay long.

Not much to report on the house front. We are caught in an endless loop of inspections and insurance hoops to jump through but I will update everyone as soon as there is anything to tell.

House Progress

It's high time we had an update on the house on the blog so here we are. Currently, a lot of the progress from the professional builders is being blocked by waiting for inspections and jumping through insurance hoops but we are in a good place and have been able to start doing some work ourselves. The first order of business was to remove the popcorn ceiling. The cleaning company told us it couldn't be cleaned and planned to just paint over it so we decided removing it was a better plan.

The first bedroom we are working on is Clovers old room, soon to be the play room. Since the girls want to share a bedroom when we move back in we are fixing this room up for storage and craft space.

The girls picked the turquoise color for this room and it looks so bright and fresh! Here are some in progress shots.

We bought a whole row of IKEA bookshelves for this room so there will be lots of storage space. As far as what has been going on with the professional crew at the house, the basement has been cleaned and painted (below)

The plumbing is fixed (hooray for working toilets!), And the electrical work is well underway.

Last but not least Eric finished the treehouse so the girls have a fun place to play while we work on the house. Probably not much will happen this week but we have ordered the glass for the windows and are hoping to be able to have them installed next week.

January Photos

We kicked off the New Year with our friend's annual New Years Day brunch where they added a balloon drop for the kids this year.

It's been a really warm winter so we got to spend lots of time outside at the Nature Center and Red Top Mountain with friends.

We got one little cold spell where did get some snow and ice.

We visited Fernbank Museum.

And lastly, we visited Eric's family in Knoxville.

We hanging in through our home rebuilding for another month here but will have exciting updates to share soon!
